Island Activities

We have personally participated in all these activities and have hand-selected the best guides on the island and ocean to show you around. Over the past 5 years, we have spent countless hours cultivating relationships with local people on the island, researching lodging, participating in tours, checking out restaurants and beach bars, and seeking out the finest places for sunrises and sunsets.

Our specialty is curating trips to this wonderful island, providing connections to services that travelers need but are limited and sometimes impossible to find online

Hiking

Take a guided hike to the Peak, Providencia has several mountain peaks that are over 1000 ft above sea level. The trip to the highest peak takes between 3 and 4 hours round trip and offers incredible 360 degree views of the island.

Snorkeling

Incredible is how to best describe it. With the 3rd largest barrier reef in the world and 82-degree water, it’s like swimming in an aquarium and is some of the best in the Caribbean.

Scuba diving

With over 35 dive sites around the island you could spend a lifetime in the water here and still be seeing new things. Whether it is reefs, wrecks, or sharks Providencia has it. For beginner to expert divers, we have relationships with dive shops and dive masters who can provide the Scuba trip of a lifetime.

Fishing

Would you like to put some fish on the table for dinner? The locals are experts fishing with hand lines using bait and spearguns. Local fishing guides will show you how to use the gear and help to clean the catch. Rockfish, Triggerfish, and Snapper are the main species targeted. All are delicious on the table.

For avid fly fishers there is a chance for the Providence Slam, Tarpon, Bonefish, and Snook in a day. The flyfishing is Catch and Release for these sport species; you must bring your own gear. If you would like to fly fish on Providencia we can help you with the best guides on the island, recommended flies and tackle.

Horseback Riding

Horse culture runs deep here. The horses are well cared for and gentle. The tack is good quality Western style. Take a ride on the beach while you are here.

Sailing

Cat boats are the traditional sailboat in the region. Unfortunately, almost all these boats were destroyed in 2020 by Hurricane Iota. In the spring of 2023, there were five of these boats being rebuilt by different parties. Their plan is to have them ready to sail early next year.

DIY Activities

Santa Catalina – Take a walk over Lover’s Bridge to explore the little island of Santa Catalina. See the cannons at Fort Warwick on your way to Morgans Head for amazing snorkeling off a remote beach.

Chilling on the Beach – On Providencia, the locals call a beach a bay. There are three main easy-to-access beaches/bays on the island. Each has soft white sand and beautiful blue water. All are family-friendly and rarely have any crowds.

  • Almond Bay is the smallest and the quietest. It’s a short walk from the main road and gets you to a beautiful spot of sand with a cool and fun beach bar.
  • Manchineel Bay, located just outside the village of Bottom House, is the middle-sized beach about ¾ of a mile long with great spots to stretch out in the sun or shade with several beach restaurants/bars.
  • Southwest Bay is the largest of the beaches and is home to horse racing on select Saturdays. At Southwest Bay, you will find plenty of space and plenty of food and drink opportunities.

Cycling – Love to cycle? Mountain-style bikes are what’s most available and can be provided for a short ride or for your whole stay. It is about 10 miles around Providence with plenty of ups and downs and big views to keep it interesting. Riding on the island is best in the mornings and evenings when it is a bit cooler.

Tour the Town – While the town of Providencia itself is small in size, it is nonetheless lively. Take a stroll through town and grab a coffee or fresh-fried empanada from one of the shops or street vendors. Grab a beer at lunch and a conversation outside the market. In just a few days, you’ll recognize the locals and undoubtedly will be a part of their streetside conversations.

Take a Lap – If napping during the heat of the day isn’t your thing, grab your moto or mule and take a lap around the island for a light breeze and beautiful scenery. Taking about an hour, these laps, either clockwise or counterclockwise around the island never disappoints.
